A Few Details..
The Clarissa Ballroom is situated in Central Minnesota just north of Clarissa and a short distance off of Highway 71, has a rich history. Initially constructed in Bertha, Minnesota, the venue was relocated to Clarissa from Bertha in the late 1940s due to concerns among local residents regarding the volume of music associated with
the establishment. Following the move, Mr. Wheeler sold the ballroom to Bill Kulick. During this time, Kulick brought many popular bands to the stage at the Clarissa Ballroom, the likes of Whoopee John, Wee Willie & The Six Fat Dutchman
to name a few. Clarissa Ballroom served as a historical social hub in the Midwest during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and was a place where many people met their future spouses. Ownership subsequently transferred to Don & Bev Thompson, and then in 1985 to Tony & Marion Massmann. In July 1997, Jim and Becky Pratt acquired ownership of the venue and maintain ownership today.
The Clarissa Ballroom has undergone numerous changes throughout its history and is now predominantly reserved for private events. Due to high demand during popular wedding months, early reservations are recommended. The venue is
available for bookings year-round, and we encourage prospective clients to contact us in advance to secure their preferred date.
Since their acquisition, the Pratts have overseen extensive renovations, including the installation of a vaulted ceiling and new roof in 2007, as well as updated heating and cooling systems. Additional enhancements have been made, such as an updated kitchen and the addition of an outdoor patio in 2017. Most recently, in 2023, an outdoor wedding site featuring a wedding barn and pergola was developed and is now available to host on-site weddings as well as wedding receptions and dances.
Over the years, the Clarissa Ballroom has hosted numerous events, with hundreds of weddings among them. Owners Jim and Becky bring over 60 years of combined catering experience to their business. Together with their children—Dylan,
Danielle, and Derek—and their families, they are committed to prioritizing customer satisfaction through exceptional service, a welcoming environment, quality food, and competitive pricing. They collaborate closely with clients to ensure that each wedding or event runs smoothly and successfully, helping make every occasion memorable. “We here at the Clarissa Ballroom take pride in our name and everything we do.
